[ Loki makes his way into the sad kitchen, peeking out at the living room once more before he steps inside and opens a portal!! He darts in and turns off the stove, ladeling some of the kosher vegetable stew into a bowl and grabbing a spoon, some of the fancy bread he picked out for Billy, leaving a written note (CALMING DOWN JOSH HELP YOURSELF TO STEW BACK SOON!!! -L) all in around thirty seconds before stepping back through into Josh's apartment.
Portal closed, he heads back into the sad lounge where Josh is sitting. ]
This is an Asgardian recipe so you know it is good for you.
[ yeah, okay. he'll... eat in silence for a moment. giving his mouth something to do other than to run and his thoughts to recenter on something other than running or feeling shitty. ]
... I've never met your friend outside of here. But David said he threatened to unmake him once.
The whole reason for his broadcast was to help the younger God of Mischief. Without a home or a dimension of his own, he will be erased from existence when I return to claim my role as Loki on Earth-616.
Then you should know, way better than anyone, that it's important that this place doesn't get destroyed.
[ ... ]
Maybe I could've handled it better. [ ... ] Okay. I could definitely have handled it better.
[ his gaze drops down to the empty bowl. ]
... at the last place we were at, there was... this guy. [ this guy. ] He was a reality warper... or magic... or, I don't know. Wasn't a mutant, but we basically made him one of us. He lived with me 'n David, my idea. [ there's the barest pause. the guilt of something else weighing in the words. i wanted him close for reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with looking out for him, and everything to do with having feelings. ] And he... he had all kinds of issues. A really messy past. And present. And no future back home.
[ it's the most he's ever talked about kavinsky since they got here. it's... easier. to wall off his feelings. to pretend like it didn't matter now. ]
One day he went to a reality warper and asked her to fix him, like, a specific thing that was messing with him... and she did, and then his power started messing with the fix. And he hurt Laurie and David, and I know in his right mind he never would've done that...
[ and now he's dead. their home was saved but they couldn't stay there any more. ]
It's not that I've got anything against reality warpers. It's just the way he was talking about his powers, like - I'm equally dangerous. Probably more, actually, since he doesn't have a body count, and when I want to hurt people there isn't anything that can stop me. But that's the point. Telling me you've got rules and getting bent outta shape when people are trying to make sure you're not going to do something that could hurt them doesn't really earn my trust. It just makes me wonder how long it's gonna be before you go off like a bomb. Or your powers evolve outside of your control.

[ Loki holds on. ]
Then you sit down and I'll ... be a really cool guy in your kitchen, making miracles. Can you sit?
no subject
[ awkwardly. sitting himself down on the corner of the couch. ]
... Pizza's fine. I don't think there's enough in there to make any actual food.

[ He speaks levelly, giving Josh clear, calm facts. ]
He has a mouth on him, but he would not intentionally hurt someone. Not unless they threatened his person; his version of Laurie. Teddy.

[ he sucks on the spoon for a moment. ]
And this... this isn't just about Laurie.

A large chunk of it seems to always boil back down to Laurie.

[ he's not budging on that point. ]
It's about everybody in worlds like this who have no where to go back to.
